1. Tell us a little bit about you. What kind of photography do you do?
I have been involved in photography for a very long time but only recently (2006) started my business. I primarily handle weddings, with some family and high school senior portraits also. When I travel for pleasure, I love to capture the essence of the local places and people – which I then apply to how I capture weddings.
2. Show us your 3 favorite photos
Hmmm…Just three? Well, here are three – just not sure if they are my “favorites”. Let’s start with the first (Decca_001). This was one of my very first Indian weddings – which now account for about 40-60% of my clients – and I shot this as she was just sitting during the ceremony. I absolutely love the way this bride looks in this image, the details in her features, the way the light is hitting her, the colors, the jewelry, everything. It was shot with a Canon 20D and a 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS lens.
The second image (Decca_002) is one of those that you want to say you planned but it actually just happened – which tend to be the most natural photos. I was shooting this bride’s bridal portrait session and had decided I’d pose her by this weeping willow tree by a small lake. As I’m looking through the camera (a Canon 5D with an 85mm f/1.8 lens), I tell her to step back just a bit and the wind suddenly picked up – blowing some of the branches toward her. She just took her arms and pulled them back to part the branches and I got this. It is such a natural expression and the colors are just perfect.
The third one (Decca_003) was shot as the couple was exiting the church after the ceremony. I just love the sheer smile she has – which was 100% natural, how he’s holding her, and how the wedding party is reacting to their exit. This was shot with a Canon 20D and a 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye lens.
There are many others, but these are the three that immediately jumped to my mind.
3. Where are you located?
I am located in the Houston, Texas, area but am ready, willing, and able to serve clients anywhere in the world. I am well traveled (approximately fifteen countries and over 30 states!) and love to explore new places and meet new people.
4. How did you get into photography?
I realize it may be a bit of a cliché, but in high school. One of my math teachers was into photography and he would lend me his cameras (Minolta SRT-101). Eventually, we set up a darkroom in the school basement and he taught me a bit about developing and printing. I went on to photograph just about all the candids in my yearbook and some of the sports photos. While an undergrad, I took some more photography classes to “balance” my computer science curriculum – only to find out they were more work! I have been hooked ever since.
5. Describe your style.
I think weddings are beautiful and romantic events – as a result, I take a documentary style but still strive to capture the beauty, romance, and emotion that is present. I tend toward a bit of a “fashion” and somewhat “sexy” look with portrait sessions and will take it as far as the client is willing to go. I tend to be laid back – but very professional – and like having fun. You have to, weddings are just giant parties celebrating two individuals and their families becoming one.
